What is Hypnotherapy and How Can It Help?

Some people might have preconceived notions about therapy involving hypnosis, often influenced by amusing stories about stage hypnotists and their performances. It always makes me smile when someone asks if I can make them do or say something against their will… 😊

However, the reality is far less dramatic—hypnosis is simply a natural state of our mind. In fact, many of us spend about 60% of our day in hypnosis without even realizing it!

Does it seem hard to believe that hypnosis is so effortless? The truth is, it happens naturally. Every time we focus inward—on our thoughts, emotions, or memories—we shift our state of awareness and enter a form of self-hypnosis. Hypnosis also occurs when we concentrate deeply on one thing, such as listening to music and tuning out the outside world, getting lost in a video game or movie, or even driving on autopilot to work.

This state of focused awareness offers immense possibilities for self-discovery, self-acceptance, and transformation. A skilled hypnotherapist can guide you using direct and indirect suggestions to help you achieve your goals. Of course, you are always in control—you choose whether to accept the suggestions or not. But if you change your thoughts, you will change your world!

Typically, within just a few sessions, we will identify the root cause of an issue, reshape your mindset, and rehearse new behaviors until they become a natural part of you. As Lorraine Gleeson wisely said: "To change habits, it takes four weeks to learn them, four weeks to practice them, and four weeks for them to become normal behavior."
